Rainy craft: T-Shirt Scarf!

It's is one rainy dreary day here, yuck! Plus, I woke up SICK (this always happens after all 3 boys get sick - then it's my turn), double yuck!

This weekend Greg went through a bunch of his old tshirts... lots to throw out! I hate just throwing stuff out, but you can only have so many rags!

So since the boys are playing rather well together today and Luke was taking his morning nap, I jumped on pinterest and came across this:

Pinned Image

Hmmmm.... light bulb in head went off! I can do that!

So here's what I did. Yes, on top of the mirror I'm suppose to be working on... but I need to give it a layer of paint before I start gluing toys on and I don't have anywhere inside to do that. Due to the rain, it looks like I'll just be using the mirror as my work space today ;)

Cut off the bottom portion of the shirt (removing the bottom hem). After the fact I recommend doing a bit more than I did... maybe a foot.

Cut in half to give you one long piece of fabric (an after the fact thought... I'd use a bigger shirt for more length... like a double XL rather than this mens large).

Then cut the ends into a "fringe"

Pull/stretch the entire piece and then also each little fringe (to help it curl a bit and be longer)

Taa-da! That was so easy & fun!

Sorry, more blurry than I realized until post time!

Now I just need to embellish it, like the original poster did! Hmmmm......not sure I have enough alike buttons to pull it off... what else do I have laying around????

If you're visiting from there, hello! Hope to see you around!

Remember, last month I guest blogged there for the Peppermint Candy Centerpiece post :)

I'm so thankful for the opportunity to network with other moms that blog... even while experiencing my own little blogging slump at the moment. Very appreciative indeed!

"Indoor Tri" March 4, 2012

I'm going to be there hoping not to fall on my face (figuratively OR literally)!

I've been seeing these HUGE signs up all over the gym since the New Year.

Indoor Tri on Sunday, March 2012 starting at 7am

10 minute swim, 30 minute bike ride, 20 minute run!

Anyway, after much hemming & hawing (in my mind) I posted about it on Facebook and everyone jumped in and said to just DO IT. So I went to spin tonight, picked the info card on the way out and registered tonight! Oh my... I was a ball of nerves just hitting submit!

So my plan of attack... a 10 minute swim really isn't anything hard for me (being a swimmer as a youth it just stuck with me), so I'll do that once a week. I already do spin twice a week, so I'll keep up with that. Now running... oh boy... I'm NOT a runner. Never have been, not one iota. So that I will definitely have to work on. Have been given some great suggestions... so the rest of my 6 weeks will be spent training to run a full 20 minutes on a treadmill!

I know to some, this really is no big deal. But for me it's HUGE. The commitment to train for the 6 weeks... the competing part... it's all out of my comfort zone. So here's goes nothing :)

Found some inspiration for my "initals" project!

I posted last week about the boys wall initials and wanting to do something different with them. Well, I do believe I've been inspired! Pinterest didn't let me down afterall, ha ha!

I'm going to do a spin-off of this (click on pic for original creative idea!)...

I think I want it to horizontal and in with the toys I'll put the "J" in one corner and the "E" in the opposite bottom corner. I'm going to try to stick to "transportation" type toys to stick with the light theme of their room. Then spray it all with that fabulous Rustoleum blue that the boys chair is painted in their room!

This is a great project because it's mobile and can move with us, it uses things that might of been just thrown away... and it's a super unique idea!

Okay so....

1. Need to find a mirror.... tried my local friends (was hoping someone had something stashed in their garage they were dying to get rid of... no luck!), so time for some thrift store shopping this weekend

2. Coming up with toys (broken will be just fine!) Of course after christmas I went through the boys today and threw out all the broken or goody bag type toys they never play with. So now I'll be hounding friends for their junk ;)

3. I hope to have this completed before next month comes calling ;)

An Initial Project Brainstorm

Back in October we bunked up the big boys! We had enough rooms for all 3 boys to each have one... but Evan's room was the perfect nursery and it really is nice to have a guest room. We have a little secret... we're probably moving this year (lets' hope my stress level doesn't officially go through the roof). We don't have a time frame yet, we just know it's in the works. We just know 2012 is the year since we moved here 3 years ago... Greg's time is up... time for a promotion and therefore transfer.

So in the back of my head I have to keep that all in mind. Which is hard for me, I still have lots of plans for this house. I don't have to stop my fun... I just need to do things that will get mileage and are mobile!

The boys like most children being born to the world right now, have had their initials up on their walls. When I moved Evan into Jake's room... herein after called The Big Boys Room... I never took down Jake's initials (they used to be straight, I just took them down then remembered to take a pic and put them back up real quick!). Evan's were still hanging in Luke's room until.... today.

Time for something new! But I'm not sure what!?!?!

I've been scouring pinterest, and am disappointed in my findings. First time ole pinterest has let me down. Got a neat idea? Thinking of just using their first initials this time around.

Here's a tour of when it was Jake's room (back when I would cram multiple things into one post!)... to give you an idea of the space/decor. Now his bed is moved more to the window (removed nightstand) and Evan's bed is to the right.

My goal is to paint the beds once we move again... because by then we'll probably use the other twin we have and get Evan out of the toddler bed. I think that would be great... two twin beds with different style headboards but painted the same punch of color! I also want to work on some bulletin/memo board creation for the desk area.

Hmmmmm..... thinking..... thinking.... thinking.....

Some Christmas Memories

Thought the least I could do would be to share some pictures from our holidays!

Of course we made cookies... gingerbread, sugar, pineapple drops, chocolate chips oh and some green chocolate dipped pretzels! The gingerbread is hands down my fave! But I don't have any pictures of them really. But... whoa... up close shots ;)
Green Choc dipped Pretzels with crushed peppermint

Pineapple Drop Cookies

The boys helped decorate!

Decorated by Evan

Only a small portion that was decorated by Jake... he was on a roll!

Then on Christmas Eve we tried to get a pic of all three boys... our best one is blurry!

Big boys opened their ornaments to hang on the tree (its a tradition to get an ornament to open up and hang on the tree on Christmas Eve).

Put out the "Magic Reindeer Food" that Jake got from school.

Got Santa's cookies & milk out too (I painted that plate last year!).

Next morning they got to see what Santa left them... a kitchen... they're still over the moon about it!

Luke rather enjoyed the opening of the presents.

I made red velvet pancakes made from inspiration from something I pinned on pinterest... although mine did NOT turn out nearly as red... but they did taste more festive than the normal ones!

Happy New Years!

Soooo, um, yah... I went total MIA. What a crazy couple weeks. Yesterday family went back north, Greg went back to work today, and Jake is at school right now. So things getting back to our normal crazy.

I have high hopes for 2012. I was ready to be done with 2011. I can't remember ever being so glad to close the door on a year before. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't all bad there were some really high points... it just left me with a bitter view of 2011. It's been 5 months since we lost baby Grant, guess I thought if I was going to have issues it would of been then. But no, it's more like it's been building since then. The stress is eating me alive, it's affecting one thing at a time and soon I fear everything. So, on to the future!

This year is the year I'm hoping to finally balance myself. If I don't, I fear I may fall into depression... I feel like I'm teetering on the edge of it now. I don't want to go there. I'm so close I can touch it, but I'm still able to make that choice to not slip down that path. I fully realize for some it's not a choice, it just is... but for me I feel like right now at this moment for me... it's a choice.

So I'm coming up with a plan. The more productive I am, the less I slip. The more creative I can feel, the less I slip. The more rested I am, the less I slip. The better I feel about myself (gym, surrounding self with good people, etc) the less I slip. When I feel like a good mom, the less I slip. The plan will include ways to feel more centered and basically more me. I can't just come up with a plan on the fly... I need to research some things and will be back with a plan.

I know, this isn't something people just put out there. But maybe if I do, it'll help keep me on track. And if nothing else, at least people know what's going on underneath the surface. I don't want to be so angry any more, I don't want to be so annoyed, I don't want to feel so lonely, I don't want to be sad, I don't want to have such negative body image and thoughts, and I'm tired of being tired.... I want to swim through the dark and some out on the other side. I want to smile and really mean it. I have to get through this because it isn't just about me... I can't bring down my partner and I can't let down my three boys.

I'd love to have some company along the way. So the blog will still be about our happenings, some crafts, some decor, etc... but in it will be a little part of me hopefully growing and overcoming along the way!

Here's to 2012!!
